Trade’s 4’s

2016 Annual Trade 4’s

held on

Saturday 20th August 2016

It was with great relief to the members of Berwick Rowing Club that despite the forecast the weather remained relatively good on Saturday for the annual running of the clubs fun Community Rowing Trade 4’s.

With a ladies entry of eight crews, action got swiftly underway and progressing to the semi finals of the medal competition were Farm Oars, Rowing Stones, The Wallies and Super Mario Rows. Crews into the spoon competition were The Sleepy Heads, Dories Drifters, Row it like we stole it and Telly Tubbies. Thanks to ladies race sponsors Reddem Ltd, Simpsons Malt, Sanderson Mccreath & Edney, Ford & Etal Estates, Premier Builders, Grieve Décor and Limitless Studios, Barrels Ale House and Shelley Aitchison at Saints Hair Design.

In the medal competition Farm Oars beat Rowing Stones and The Wallies beat Super Mario Rows to reach the medal final. After making their best start of the competition Farm Ladies rowed a solid race and the crew of Karen Young, Caroline Frew, Hilary Cairns and Kirsty Brewis were delighted to take the win. In the Ladies Wooden Spoon, The Sleepy Heads woke up to a win over Dories Drifters and the Telly Tubbies played out winners over Row it like we stole it. With a decorated spoon at stake Telly Tubbies made a good start but after a slight mistake The Sleepy Heads looked like they might be dreaming of victory however, The Telly Tubbies Jodie Williamson, Emily Robinson, Chloe Dumble and Andrea Little claimed their Spoon.

With four crews in the mixed competition Mixed Oars saw off Team Great Bearwick Rowers and Defending Champions defeated Booze Cruise. Defending Champions were not to hold onto their title as Mixed Oars Karen Young, Ewan Brewis, Tim Stark and Kirsty Brewis just out powered them. Thanks to Mixed race sponsors GM Craig Builders, The Cobbled Yard, Lime Shoe Co, Allan Brothers Stuart Riley Plumbing and Craig Wells.

In the Wooden Spoon Great Bearwick Rowers Alison Inglis, Craig Dixon, Anthony Murray and Susan Murray out sailed Booze Cruise on their way to victory.

With only two crews in the men’s race and some ladies filling in it was a straight final between GB Rowers and Border Farm oars. This provided the closest race of the day but the GB Rowers just pulled out as winners. Thanks to men’s race sponsors SWP Engineering and Alstrom.

Perhaps the most coveted prize of all went to Dories Drifters for their colourful fancy dress costumes.

Thanks to all the competitors for taking part with such great humour and enthusiasm. More pictures of the racing fun can be found on the clubs Facebook page.
